I am still amazed at how different things are here. It really is like going back in time to somewhere like Mayberry from the Andy Griffin show (Still one of my favorite shows). After we had been here about a week, our household goods arrived and our house was full, of our stuff and empty boxes. I really didn't want to throw away all those perfectly good boxes, so I did what I would have done on Oahu to try to get rid of them, I posted an add on craigslist. Two days went by and nothing happened. Not one email or phone call. I mentioned this fact to a friend of ours and he asked if I had tried the bulletin boards in town. We had noticed them, about 4 of them located at different spots throughout the town, but never thought of actually using them. My friend told me that if I posted on them, they would come. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I scratched a quick "Free Packing Boxes" with our phone number and posted it on a few of the bulletin boards. Sure enough, it wasn't much later we started getting calls and people started making appointments to come get boxes. We probably had 10 people call and within a few days all of our boxes were gone and I even had a few people who left me their number in case we had more boxes as we unpacked that they could come an get. I went into town to take the advertisement down the next day, but they were already gone. I'm not sure when they were removed (I heard there is a woman who is the self proclaimed "Bulletin Board Monitor" who removes old posts), but they were up long enough to do the job. It's nice to know that places like this still exist in this high tech world, where the local bulletin board connects the community and I am very thankful I get to live here.
